4 Day Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour with a Night in the Todra Gorge

The relaxed way across Morocco: four days from Marrakech to Fes with nights in Ouarzazate, the Todra Gorge and a Sahara camp. Shared minibus, €230 per person.

  • 4 days
  • Marrakech → Fes
  • Small group
  • From TT$ 1,757 (€230) per person

Overview

The 4 day Marrakech to Fes desert tour takes the same road as our 3-day crossing but breaks it into easier stages. Day one ends early in Ouarzazate, day two links Skoura, the Dades Valley and the Todra Gorge with time to walk, and you reach the dunes of Merzouga on day three fresh enough to enjoy them.

Sleeping near the Todra Gorge is a treat in itself: you can walk into the canyon in the soft evening light, when the day-trippers have gone. The next day, the drive to Merzouga is short, leaving room for a camel trek at sunset and a night in a Berber camp. On the final day, you head north through the Ziz Valley, Midelt and the cedar forest of Azrou, home to Barbary macaques, before Ifrane and Fes.

This is a shared small-group tour with up to 17 travelers in an air-conditioned minibus, departing every day at a fixed €230 per person. It pairs well with a stay in Fes and a day trip to Chefchaouen. Not sure how many days you need in Morocco overall? Read our itinerary guide.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1 Marrakech – Tizi n'Tichka – Aït Benhaddou – Ouarzazate

Pickup in Marrakech in the morning and a winding climb through the High Atlas. Stop at viewpoints over Berber villages and at the Tizi n'Tichka pass, 2,260 m above sea level. On the far side, visit Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO-listed ksar of earthen houses and towers that has appeared in dozens of films. Walk through the alleys to the top for the view over the valley. Continue to Ouarzazate, arriving mid-afternoon, with free time to visit the Taourirt kasbah or a film studio (entrance not included). Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Overnight: Hotel in Ouarzazate Meals: Dinner

  2. Day 2 Ouarzazate – Skoura – Dades – Todra Gorge

After breakfast, drive east to the palm grove of Skoura, dotted with old earthen kasbahs, and on along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs through Kelaat M'Gouna, center of Morocco's rose-growing region. Turn into the Dades Valley to see the rock formations nicknamed Monkey Fingers and the gorge itself, with a stop for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, continue to Tinghir and its huge palm grove, then to the Todra Gorge. Check in at your hotel near the gorge and walk between the towering cliffs in the late light, when it is quiet and cool.

Overnight: Hotel in Todra Gorge / Tinghir Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  3. Day 3 Todra – Erfoud – Merzouga, camel trek and desert camp

A relaxed morning, then a short drive east through Tinejdad and the desert plains to Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops, where you can see how marble rich in ancient shells is cut and polished. Continue to Merzouga, arriving in time for lunch (not included) and a rest. In the late afternoon, mount your camel and ride about an hour into the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Watch the sunset from a high crest, then settle into the Berber camp for dinner, music around the fire and a night under one of the clearest skies in Morocco.

Overnight: Desert camp in Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  4. Day 4 Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fes

Early sunrise over the dunes, then back to Merzouga by camel for breakfast. Today is the longest day, around 8 to 9 hours with stops. Drive north through Errachidia and the Ziz Valley gorge, a ribbon of palms between cliffs, to Midelt for lunch (not included). Cross the Middle Atlas to the cedar forest near Azrou, where Barbary macaques often come close to the road, and then to Ifrane, a mountain town of sloping roofs and parks. Descend to Fes, arriving in the evening, with drop-off at your hotel or the nearest medina gate.

Overnight: — (tour ends in Fes) Meals: Breakfast

Who is the 4 day Marrakech to Fes desert tour for?

It is a good fit for first-time visitors who want to see the south without exhausting road days, couples who like an evening walk instead of arriving at dark, and families with kids who need breaks. Only the last day is long.

Pickup: around 7:30 a.m. in Marrakech; in the medina we meet you at the nearest square. Drop-off: in Fes in the evening of day 4.

What to bring: your main suitcase rides in the minibus all the way to Fes; carry a small bag to the camp. Pack a fleece or down jacket from October to April, plus sunglasses, a scarf, sunscreen and cash in dirhams. Please do not feed the macaques in Azrou: it harms them.

Moroccan journey

My family and I planned our own 10-day itinerary in Morocco. We hired a car with a driver to travel with us and enjoy everything Morocco has to offer. Salem, our driver, was a great person: kind, always available, and not just our driver — he suggested things to do, places to see and where to stay, and explained his traditions and culture…

Frequently asked questions

How does the shared minibus work?

You travel with other guests, up to 17 in total, in an air-conditioned minibus with a professional driver. Everyone follows the same route and stays in the same hotels and camp.

Is the price fixed per person?

Yes, €230 per person (about US$258 as of October 2026), regardless of group size. A PayPal deposit holds your place; the balance is paid on arrival.

What is the difference from the 3-day Marrakech to Fes tour?

The 4-day tour spreads the first two days over three, with nights in Ouarzazate and the Todra Gorge, so you walk the gorges in good light and reach the desert less tired.

Is there a single supplement?

Yes, on request. Otherwise solo travelers share a twin room with someone of the same gender where possible.

Can I upgrade the hotels and desert camp?

Yes. Superior accommodation and a more comfortable camp with private-bathroom tents are available for an extra charge; ask when you book.

Any questions about this tour?

Send us a message, no commitment: we reply personally, usually within 24 hours. We can also adapt the route to your dates.
