Six slow, romantic days from the Atlas to the Sahara: boutique lodges, a kasbah in the palm groves and a private dinner under the desert stars.

  • 6 days
  • Marrakech
  • Private
  • From TT$ 7,601 (€995) per person

Overview

Just married, or celebrating an anniversary? This private luxury Morocco honeymoon tour is designed for two people who want the Sahara without the rush. Instead of long drives, you get shorter days, beautiful places to stay and moments planned just for you, from a candlelit dinner in the High Atlas to a private table set on the dunes.

You start with a night in a boutique mountain lodge near Imlil, at the foot of Toubkal. Then cross the Tizi n’Tichka to Aït Benhaddou and sleep in a restored kasbah in the Skoura palm grove. Two nights in a luxury camp at Erg Chebbi give you a full day in the desert: 4×4 across the dunes, Gnawa music in Khamlia and an evening that ends with just the two of you and the stars.

Your English-speaking driver takes care of every transfer, so you can simply enjoy it. See more ideas on our Morocco honeymoon page.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1 Marrakech – High Atlas – Imlil

Leave Marrakech late morning, no early alarm needed. In about 90 minutes the road climbs into the High Atlas, past the market town of Asni and into the valley of Imlil, surrounded by walnut trees and the peaks of the Toubkal massif.

Check into a boutique mountain lodge with terraces facing the summits. Spend the afternoon on a gentle walk through a nearby Berber village, or simply relax with tea and the view. In the evening, enjoy a private dinner prepared for the two of you, with the lights of the valley below and the mountain air cool on your face.

Overnight: Boutique mountain lodge near Imlil Meals: Dinner

  2. Day 2 Atlas – Tizi n'Tichka – Aït Benhaddou – Skoura

After breakfast, cross the mountains by the Tizi n'Tichka pass, stopping for photos above the clouds when the weather plays along. Explore Aït Benhaddou, the UNESCO-listed ksar seen in Gladiator, with time to climb to the top for the panorama.

In the afternoon, continue past Ouarzazate to the palm grove of Skoura, a green oasis dotted with old earthen kasbahs. Your home tonight is one of them, restored as a boutique hotel with a pool and gardens. Watch the sunset from the rooftop before dinner.

Overnight: Boutique kasbah in the Skoura palm grove Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  3. Day 3 Skoura – Dades – Todra Gorge – Merzouga

Head east along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, through the Rose Valley and up to the Dades Gorge viewpoint. Continue to the Todra Gorge for a walk between cliffs about 300 meters high.

In the afternoon, reach Merzouga at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Swap the car for camels and ride into the sand as the sun drops. Your luxury camp has spacious tents with private bathrooms, proper beds and comfortable lounge areas. Dinner is served by candlelight, and the night belongs to the drums and the stars.

Overnight: Luxury desert camp, Erg Chebbi Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  4. Day 4 Merzouga: Dunes, Khamlia and Dinner Under the Stars

Wake up for sunrise on the dunes, then enjoy a slow breakfast at camp. Mid-morning, set off by 4x4 around Erg Chebbi. Visit a nomad family for tea, then Khamlia, a village whose musicians keep alive the Gnawa tradition brought by their sub-Saharan ancestors.

Return to camp for a lazy afternoon: nap, read in the shade or try sandboarding. At sunset, climb a dune with your partner. Tonight's dinner is private, set on the sand under lanterns and stars, far from other guests. It is the moment most couples remember for years.

Overnight: Luxury desert camp, Erg Chebbi Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  5. Day 5 Merzouga – Rissani – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate

After breakfast, leave the dunes behind and stop in Rissani, an old caravan town with a lively souk and a historic ksar. Continue west across the desert plains via Alnif and N'Kob, a village of kasbahs, then follow the Draa Valley, one of Morocco's longest palm oases.

Arrive in Ouarzazate in the afternoon and check into a boutique hotel. Relax by the pool or take a short stroll to the Taourirt kasbah. If you are curious about the film world, the studios are nearby. Dinner is at the hotel.

Overnight: Boutique hotel in Ouarzazate Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  6. Day 6 Ouarzazate – Tizi n'Tichka – Marrakech

Enjoy a calm breakfast before the last drive. The road climbs back over the Tizi n'Tichka, with stops in Berber villages and at argan and walnut cooperatives along the way if you wish.

Arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon, in time for a hammam or a last evening on Jemaa el-Fna square. Your driver drops you at your riad, hotel or the airport. End of a trip made for two, with a camera roll full of dunes, kasbahs and sunsets, and plenty of reasons to come back for an anniversary.

Moroccan journey

My family and I planned our own 10-day itinerary in Morocco. We hired a car with a driver to travel with us and enjoy everything Morocco has to offer. Salem, our driver, was a great person: kind, always available, and not just our driver — he suggested things to do, places to see and where to stay, and explained his traditions and culture…
