This Tangier to Chefchaouen day trip pairs two of northern Morocco’s most beautiful towns. In the morning you explore Tetouan, a whitewashed medina listed by UNESCO, shaped by Andalusian refugees and still very much lived in. Then the road climbs into the Rif mountains to Chefchaouen, the blue city that fills so many travel feeds.
A private vehicle makes this long day much easier. Your English-speaking driver chooses the best time to arrive, waits while you explore and is ready when you are, so you never have to watch the clock or hunt for a taxi. In Chefchaouen you have several hours to wander, photograph and shop before driving back to Tangier in the evening.
Expect about two to two and a half hours of driving each way, plus stops. If you would rather sleep among the blue walls and wake up before the crowds, choose the 3-day tour from Tangier to Fes, which includes a night in Chefchaouen.
